The Riverhead Police Department COPE Division conducted the operation in cooperation with the Riverhead Community Awareness Program (CAP), according to a police press release. The compliance checks targeted the sale of alcohol products to patrons under the age of 21.  

Police said 17 of the 18 establishments inspected were found to be in compliance.

The following locations were found to be in compliance:

  • American Gas, 1427 Main Road, Jamesport
  • Empire Gas, 640 Main Road, Aquebogue
  • 7-Eleven, 162 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • 7-Eleven, 1050 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Bola Mobil, 1575 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • One Stop Smoke Shop, 1696 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • OK Petro, 1212 East Main Street, Riverhead
  • FA Grocery, 733 East Main Street, Riverhead
  • Mobil, 415 East Main Street, Riverhead
  • Riverhead Stationary, 407 East Main Street, Riverhead
  • Time to Eat, 123 West Main Street, Riverhead
  • Lucky Liquors, 134 West Main Street, Riverhead
  • 7-Eleven, 245 West Main Street, Riverhead
  • Shell Gas, 626 West Main Street, Riverhead
  • Oscar Deli, 421 Pulaski Street, Riverhead
  • Polish Town Deli, 432 Pulaski Street, Riverhead
  • Riverhead Supermarket, 945 West Main Street, Riverhead

Police said the following location was found not to be in compliance:

  • Valero Gas, 1356 Old Country Road, Riverhead

Police charged Ilyas Cakir, 67, of North Bay Shore, an employee of the Valero Gas location, with unlawful dealing with a child in the first degree, a Class A misdemeanor, according to the release. Police said he was processed and released on a desk appearance ticket for a future court date.
