Riverhead police charged a Southampton woman Saturday night after investigators allegedly found a Riverhead restaurant operating without a liquor license and in violation of town and fire codes, according to police.
Members of the Riverhead Police Department’s COPE Unit and Patrol Division, along with Riverhead code enforcement officials and the Riverhead Fire Marshal’s Office, conducted a town code investigation at Main Street Restaurant and Bar, located at 300 East Main Street, at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Investigators determined the establishment did not have a license to sell alcohol and identified numerous town code and fire code violations, according to police.
The business owner, Rajkumarie Shivmangal, 43, of Southampton, was arrested and charged with false personation and sale of alcohol without a license, both misdemeanors, police said.
Shivmangal was processed at Riverhead Police headquarters and released on a desk appearance ticket, according to police.
According to the New York State Liquor Authority’s online public database of liquor licenses, there is an active on-premises liquor license for 300 East Main Street., issued to Barrilla Culinary Concepts dba Insatiable Eats. That license expires May 31, according to the state database. There is no pending license application shown at that address.
Insatiable Eats was the most recent restaurant to operate in the building, a former bank that was renovated for use as a restaurant and opened as The Riverhead Project in 2011. The Riverhead Project shut down in September 2014. Sonoma Grill opened there in October 2016 and closed a year later. The building sat vacant until it was opened by Michelangelo of Riverhead in 2019, about six months before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Michelangelo closed in March 2021. Insatiable Eats Creative Kitchen opened in December 2021. It is not clear when the restaurant shuttered, but a “for lease” sign was erected outside the building in November 2025.
The property is owned by HREA 300 E Main St LLC, a New York City-based company which purchased the site for $2.2 million in September 2021. It was listed for lease on Loopnet in December and remains an active listing, according to the website. The listing describes the property as a “turnkey restaurant” with 4,000 sq. ft. on the main floor and 4,000 sq. ft. in the basement.
