Hallockville Museum Farm will host its 45th annual Hallockville Country Fair on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at 6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
The rain-or-shine fair celebrates Long Island’s family farm heritage with livestock, tractors, historic home tours, folk arts, traditional skills demonstrations, children’s activities, live music, food trucks and a marketplace of baked goods, crafts and handmade wares. Activities will take place throughout the 28-acre preserved farm homestead and the adjacent Long Island Antique Power Association grounds.
New attractions this year include presentations about local Indigenous peoples by Tony Valderrama, a protégé of the late “Tee Pee Ted” Strickroth; a scarecrow-making contest; farm animal presentations by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County Farm; a colonial costume photo station with costumes loaned by North Fork Community Theatre; a chainsaw sculpture demonstration by artist Gregg Klewicki; and line dancing lessons with Terry Lou Barrett.
The fair will also feature historic tours and demonstrations including colonial cooking over an open fire, broom making and traditional bread baking; folk arts demonstrations including basket weaving, spinning, weaving, quilting, needlework and wood carving; tractor pulls and parades; blacksmith, sawmill and antique machinery demonstrations; wagon rides; a children’s train ride; old-fashioned children’s games and crafts; live music by the Old Time Jam Band and the Yazoo Brothers; and food and beverage trucks.
Area growers, cooks and beekeepers are invited to enter the Produce, Preserves and Honey Contest in categories including squash, pumpkins, potatoes, preserves and honey. Entry forms are due by Sept. 25, and contest items must be dropped off at the Hudson-Sydlowski House at Hallockville Museum Farm on Sept. 28 and 29 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Winners will be announced at the fair.
Admission is $12 for ages 12 and older, $8 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children ages 1 to 4. Half-price admission will be offered Sunday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon. More information is available at hallockville.org.
