Riverhead Recreation Department’s 29th Annual Snapper Tournament takes place Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Amman Park on the Peconic Riverfront.

The tournament is designed to encourage youth and adults to get involved in fishing while raising money for the Recreation Department’s Scholarship Fund. Divisions include a youth division for ages 15 and under and an adult division for ages 15 and older.

Griffin Sumwalt and Zachary Timpone, of Aquebogue, share a fish tale on the downtown Riverhead dock at the 2014 tournament. RiverheadLOCAL/Denise Civiletti

Prizes include a rod and reel for the first-place winner in each division, and trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division. Raffle prizes from local merchants will be awarded immediately after the tournament.

The first 50 registrants will receive T-shirts. Advance registration is strongly encouraged so participants can choose their T-shirt size. On-site registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Town Dock.

The entry fee is $10 for the youth division and $20 for the adult division.
