We want to know.

RiverheadLOCAL and SoutholdLOCAL are partnering with ProPublica and news organizations across the country to document hate crimes as part of a national investigative journalism project.

There are currently no reliable data on hate crimes in the United States. The FBI relies on police departments to voluntarily submit hate crime data to compile statistics, but they are not federally required to do so.

ProPublica, a Pulitzer Prize winning not-for-profit news organization, launched the Documenting Hate project this year to create a national database of reported hate crimes and bias incidents. News organizations across the country are soliciting their readers to share their experiences with hate crimes, harassment and bias incidents. Participating organizations include The New York Times, BuzzFeed News, Google News Lab and The Guardian.

If you have been the victim of a hate crime or bias incident, share your story by filling out the form below to be submitted to the project. We will never share your name or contact information with anyone outside of the Documenting Hate project, including law enforcement, without your explicit permission.
