Downtown Riverhead Historic District

Riverhead Town will issue a request for proposals to locate a qualified firm to purchase the historic Slade-Hallett House at 214 Griffing Avenue in the hope of seeing it restored and occupied.

People exploring downtown will come across 39 newly installed signs at historical landmarks that display a QR code leading to a synopsis of the location’s history read aloud, and sometimes accompanied by historical photographs.

The site of a vacant former auto repair shop and used car dealer on West Main Street is proposed for a new 7-Eleven store. The existing building would be razed and a new 3,060-square-foot retail store would be built there.
