Driver’s licenses

The “Green Light NY” bill, which allows the commissioner of motor vehicles to issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants, was passed by the State Senate and quickly signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The politically charged bill passed in a largely party-line vote after a lengthy and sometimes contentious debate.

Residents and community advocates marched down Main Street Tuesday afternoon in support of state legislation that would make standard ­­driver’s licenses available for all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status.
