Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant

Representatives of the Navy and its contractor, Tetra-Tech, will provide the public with an update on the progress of environmental restoration and remediation at the former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant, which was operated by Northrop Grumman (formerly Grumman Aerospace) for nearly five decades.

The Navy is looking to sample private drinking water wells in designated areas near the former Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant(NWIRP)/Grumman facility in Calverton to test for the presence of PFAs — per-fluoroalkyl and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, which have been detected in portions of the groundwater in the area.
