Cleanup of the former Northrop-Grumman facility in Calverton should be taken over by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and made a priority cleanup site under the superfund program, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine said.

State DEC investigating fish kill in Peconic River
Large schools of Atlantic Menhaden, known as bunker fish, are aggregating in the Peconic River in downtown Riverhead and east to the CR 105 bridge and Meeting House Creek. Low dissolved oxygen levels in the river are causing a die-off.

State DEC directs cleanup of Reeves Beach vehicle fire site
After a citizen reported Sunday's vehicle fire to the State DEC spill response hotline Sunday night, a state investigator directed the town to have about five cubic yards of contaminated material removed from the beach.
