Retirement

It was a night to say congratulations, thank you and farewell for the Riverhead Board of Education, which honored students for their achievements, retiring employees for their service to the district and teachers for milestones attained.

Riverhead Police Detective Edward Carey has retired after 22 years of service. Officers, town officials, friends and family gathered for Carey's walkout ceremony Firday afternoon.

The Riverhead Police Department bade a fond farewell yesterday to longtime Det. Frank Hernandez III, who retired from the town police force after 31 years of service.

It was an emotion-filled farewell for one of Riverhead PD's top brass yesterday outside of police headquarters.
