The two Main Street buildings coming down to make way for Riverhead's town square have a date with the wrecking ball Monday.

The town has negotiated the purchase of 117 East Main Street, and 121 East Main Street and a six-month option to purchase 127 East Main Street, according to a resolution to be taken up at Tuesday's Community Development Agency meeting.

Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter is calling for the town board to move to condemn properties owned by a Brooklyn-based landlord. 'It's time to end the siege,' he said.

After removing hundreds of gallons of oil and water from storm drains, environmental regulators concerned about danger to Peconic River.

The spilt oil discharged from a sump in the building into the parking lot storm drains, then percolated to the surface after heavy rains earlier this week, Riverhead Fire Marshal Craig Zitek said.
