Riverside Rediscovered

Fair housing advocate Pilar Moya-Mancera of Housing Help Inc. argues that the hyper-concentration of affordable housing in the already underserved, low-income community of Riverside is a terrible idea that may violate the federal Fair Housing Act.

Riverside Rediscovered community organizer Siris Barrios, who has worked for five years on Riverside revitalization efforts is leaving her post at the end of this month.

The money will support the construction of a building for Children's Museum of the East End at Ludlam Park and the development of the Riverside Maritime Trail Park along the Peconic River.

Construction is underway of a mixed-use building on the Riverside traffic circle site where the long-vacant Riverboat Diner stood.

The Flanders-Riverside-Northampton Community Association and Riverside Rediscovered invite the community to their annual holiday party on Monday, Dec. 11 at the Crohan Center in Flanders from 6 to 9 p.m.

The event featured photos with Santa, a raffle, a performance by the Riverhead Middle School Show Choir—where they sang traditional Christmas carols—an outdoor fire, cookies and hot chocolate to fend off the cold.

“We want to recognize the people who've had a role in the community and that have helped improve the lives of local women,” SEPA Mujer executive director Martha Maffei said.

The organization will commemorate its 24-year anniversary Thursday evening with a gala event at Giorgio's in Baiting Hollow.

The Children's Museum of the East End, located in Bridgehampton, will open a 2,000-square-foot satellite location at Ludlum Avenue Park in Flanders, offering permanent, full-fledged, year-round enrichment programming for kids — as soon as next year if all goes according to plan.

The Peconic River Community Development Alliance has hired Tijuana Fulford as its community outreach coordinator.
