Sharper’s Hill

Officials and community members celebrated the preservation of Sharper's Hill and adjacent farmland in downtown Jamesport Wednesday.

The site, once approved by Riverhead Town for the construction of 42,000 square feet of commercial uses, includes an ancient Native American burial grounds dating back some 3,000 years.

The site known as Sharper’s Hill in Jamesport will be preserved, County Legislator Al Krupski announced tonight during Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter’s State of the Town speech at a dinner meeting in Polish Town.

Acres of undeveloped property on Jamesport’s Main Road that were once slated for 42,000 square feet of commercial development are being considered for acquisition by Suffolk County.
