Vehicular homicide

A Riverhead man who fled to Poland after his indictment was extradited to face charges in a fatal 2022 Cutchogue DWI crash.

The Riverhead man who pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, assault and aggravated DWI charges in the multi-vehicle crash on County Road 105 in August was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison today, Suffolk District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced. 

Thomas Murphy, 59, had an "extrapolated" blood alcohol content of .19 percent at the time of the crash, based on a chemical test of his blood drawn hours later pursuant to a court order.
