Strong winds have downed limbs and trees across the North Fork, bringing down power lines and causing scattered outages.
There were 293 customers in Southold Town and a handful in Riverhead without power at 5 a.m., according to PSEG-Long Island. Most of the outages are in Peconic.
Fallen trees are blocking travel lanes on Peconic Bay Boulevard in Jamesport and Stars Road in East Marion.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Long Island, southern Connecticut, New York City, Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties and northern New Jersey.
The wind advisory will remain in effect until 1 p.m. today. A gale warning is in effect for eastern Long Island Sound, also until 1 p.m.
West winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 or 50 mph will prevail this morning, according to the weather service. Wind gusts will decrease to 40 mph this afternoon.
