Riverhead Town’s beaches on the Long Island Sound will be closed today “as a result of rough surf and hazardous conditions resulting from Hurricane Erin,” Supervisor Tim Hubbard said in a press release.

The Riverhead Senior Center Due is open today and tomorrow as a warming center, due to the extreme cold weather, Riverhead Town Supervisor Tim Hubbard said.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect for northeast Suffolk County from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Minor flooding is expected in areas near the waterfront and shoreline, the National Weather Service said.

A severe thunderstorm watch and an air quality health advisory is in effect for Suffolk County today.

Long Island got lucky as Hurricane Henri, which pivoted east and west and back again as it traveled up the coast, stayed just east of the island dumping heaviest rains in parts of NYC, NJ and Connecticut.

South winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts of up to 65 mph may cause widespread power outages Monday, the National Weather Service said in a warning statement Sunday afternoon. A coastal flood advisory is also in effect for Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Upton has posted a wind advisory through 9 o'clock Monday night. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected.

Three to six inches of snow are possible today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service's winter weather advisory. With rain mixing in throughout the day on the East End, accumulations of one to three inches are more likely.

A blizzard shaping up to be much worse than what had been predicted just 24 hours ago has Suffolk County on lockdown. Temperatures are dropping into the 20s, with bands of heavy snow moving through the area bringing snowfall rates of one to three inches per hour and howling winds.

Snow will develop overnight and will accumulate from one to three inches, according to the National Weather Service.
