Gunshots fired in downtown Riverhead last night damaged vehicles and two buildings at an East Main Street apartment complex.

Riverhead Police officers responding to numerous reports of gunshots at the River Pointe Apartment Complex located at 821 East Main Street found evidence of what appeared to be an exchange of gunfire at the western end of the complex, according to a police press release. Two parked vehicles parked in front of the “F” building were damaged by gunfire and the fronts of the “F” building and “G” building were also damaged, police said.

Investigating officers recovered several expended shell casings and bullet fragments, according to the report.

No injuries were reported and the subjects involved had fled the area prior to police arrival arrival.
