A storm with potential for “significant accumulating snow” will impact the area Sunday night into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
A coastal storm is expected to bring high winds and precipitation to the region Sunday night into Monday morning. The storm will start as rain Sunday afternoon and is expected to switch over to snow at some point during the evening.
The timing of the switchover, as well as the track of the storm, will determine how much snow falls across the area, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Carlie Buccola.
“It’s too early for snow totals, so we’ll be monitoring that for the next few days,” Buccola said.
National Weather Service meteorologists believe the storm could bring heavy snow if the system tracks close enough to the coast.
The event could wrap up a winter season that has seen relatively little snow with some significant snowfall accumulation. Aside from the late January blizzard, which brought more than a foot in snow to the area, there have been few snow events with major accumulation this winter.
With temperatures expected to climb back up into the 50s by the middle of next week, any snow on the ground probably won’t stick around for long.
