Temperatures will drop into the single digits Thursday night with wind chills below zero. A coastal storm developing off the Carolina coast may bring more snow this weekend as

Wintry weather left about four inches of snow in the local area. Roads are in good shape this morning, Highway Supt. Mike Zaleski said.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday for heavy snow, with 4-8 in. of accumulations in Riverhead and 2-5 in. across the twin forks.

Riverhead highway crews battled snow drifts all night to keep roads open, while town police officers and public safety dispatchers were going full tilt responding to calls from disabled motorists stuck in snow drifts or involved in minor accidents.

The National Weather Service now forecasts accumulations of 4 to 6 inches in eastern Suffolk County, with locally higher totals possible. 

The first snowfall of the season is in the forecast Saturday night through Sunday morning, with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected in the local area, according to the National Weather Service. 

Snow is expected across Long Island tonight, with total accumulations of around 3 inches in the forecast, the National Weather Service said this afternoon. A winter weather advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. today through 7 a.m. tomorrow.

A snowfall of 3 to 5 inches blanketed Suffolk County overnight, ending early this morning, according to the National Weather Service. The winter weather advisory is no longer in effect.

The first accumulating snowfall of the season is expected late Sunday afternoon into the evening, with snow totals of 2 to 4 inches possible. Leer in español

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 o’clock this morning, as snow that started overnight continues to blanket the region in white.  Accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected, according to the National Weather Service.
