Police say Brianna Hassett, 24, of Wading River was driving while impaired by drugs when she struck and critically injured a man on a lawnmower.

A Wading River woman was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after she struck a landscaper cutting grass on Route 25 in Ridge Tuesday morning, according to Suffolk County Police.

Brianna Hassett, 24, was driving a 2005 Cadillac eastbound on Route 25, west of Pleasant View Road when she struck Anibal Aceituno-Perez, 52, of Flanders, a landscaper who was cutting a lawn on the corner of Route 25 and Pleasant View Road at approximately 11:50 a.m., police said in a press release issued late last night.

Aceituno-Perez, 52, of Flanders, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead in critical condition, police said.

Hassett was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. She is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on today, police said.
