Riverhead’s annual snapper tournament takes place Saturday at the Peconic Riverfront.

“The focus of the tournament is to get youth and adults involved in fishing and to raise money for the Riverhead Recreation Department Scholarship Fund,” said Riverhead Recreation Superintendent Ray Coyne.

There are two divisions: youth (16 and under) and adults (16 and up). First-place winners in each division. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division.

The fee participate is $15 for adults and $8 for youth.

The first 100 registrants will receive free T-shirts.

Pre-registration is available by calling 727-5744 ext. 0, by visiting the recreation department website (under “Special Events”), or in person at the recreation department office at 55 Columbus Avenue, Riverhead.

On-site registration will begin at 9 a.m. on the Peconic Riverfront. The tournament starts at 10 and ends at 2. A chinese auction for prizes donated by local businesses will begin after prizes are awarded.

Anglers must supply their own rod & reel and bait.
