Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Riverhead Police Department detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Riverhead last month.
Daniel Flammia was walking on the shoulder of Oliver Street, 300 feet south of Old Country Road on Nov. 5 at approximately 6 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, according to a joint press release issued early this morning.
Flammia, a 47-year-old Riverhead resident, was walking home from the grocery store when he was hit, according to friends and family members. The impact broke both his legs, family member Laurie Zaneski said. People on Oliver Street heard his cries for help and called police. Flammia was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead and died from his injuries on Nov. 17.
Police ask anyone with information about this crime to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
