Riverhead lost to Ward Melville 11-5 at Ward Melville High School yesterday. The Riverhead boys gave it their best shot, but they couldn’t contain a quick-passing offense, a swarming Ward Melville defense, and a hot goalie.

The Blue Waves scored five goals in the game from close in, just under the defense.

Riverhead’s John Ehlers was good on face-offs, winning more than half he took. It was a gallant effort, but the Waves came up short, with the final score 11-5.

Riverhead (2-3 in Division I, 3-3 overall) is on the road next week, traveling to Bay Shore and Harborfields. The Waves return home on Monday, April 17 at 4 p.m., when they take on Sachem North.
