East End Arts will host a weekly community drum circle led by master drummer Matt Gardiner.
Participants will learn traditional West African hand drumming and chant in the drum circle setting. Gardiner will instruct drummers in proper hand use and technique, to help them to produce a variety of sounds from the single skin of the Djembe drum.
Ages 12 through adult are welcome, and all levels are encouraged to attend this free weekly program.
The first summer drum circle will be held on Wednesday, July 19, and will continue every following Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in July and August at the East End Arts Carriage House located behind the school, at 141 E. Main Street in Riverhead. Drums are provided for on-site use, but participants are welcome to bring their own.
The Riverhead BID is sponsoring the program. Donations are suggested. For more information, click here.
