Twentieth Street in Wading River will be dedicated to the late Thomas Lateulere, a Wading River Fire District commissioner and ex-chief of the department, who died last June at age 52.
Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter and the Riverhead Town Board presented Lateulere’s mother, JoAnn Lateulere and his girlfriend, Raegin Kellerman with a proclamation at today’s town board meeting.
Lateulere grew up in Wading River. He was a 35-year member of the Wading River Fire Department and a career paramedic who worked as an emergency medical services educator, training thousands of EMTs in Suffolk County. He was one of the original flight medics for Stony Brook University Hospital.
His family members grew teary-eyed as the town supervisor read the proclamation aloud at today’s board meeting. When he finished, Walter gave Lateulere’s mother a hug. “You need a hug,” he told her. “Come here.”
A street sign indicating 20th Street’s secondary name, Thomas Lateulere Street, will be erected by the Riverhead highway department on a date to be announced.
