Riverhead had another solid outing at home. The defense was tight, rebounding was superb, and the scoring came from all over the court.
The first half was a defensive gem for both teams, as they tried to penetrate each other’s zone, but to no avail. The teams were tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter. Riverhead added 15 in the second quarter to Centereach’s 12, and the half ended with Riverhead leading 26 to 23.
The Blue Waves came out in the second half with their wheels spinning, blocking Centereach shots, hitting three-point shots, and never giving up the lead. The closest Centereach could get to Riverhead was within three points. The Blue Waves played with poise down low, grabbing rebounds, and scoring much-needed points. Riverhead (3-1) went on to win 60-54.
Christian Pace led Riverhead with 22 points, and hit four three-pointers. Quashiem Miller had 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Robert Tyre added eight points and four blocked shots, Cir’rus Davender had nine points.
