A coastal flood warning is in effect today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sunday.
A wind advisory also remains in effect until 6 p.m. this evening.
Tides will be two to three feet above astronomical tides today and tonight, causing widespread moderate coastal flooding during the times of high tide today and tonight, according to a warning issued by the National Weather Service in New York.
Low-lying, flood-prone areas will experience inundation of two to three feet above ground level tonight, the weather service said.
This will result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront, the weather service said. Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidally affected waterways.
Along Long Island Sound and the north facing portions of the forks, breaking waves of three to six feet will likely result in beach erosion, splashover, and minor damage possible to shoreline structures, the weather service said.
A gale warning remains in effect for Long Island Sound through this afternoon.
