Seven candidates are running for three seats on the Riverhead Board of Education in next month’s election.

They are, in the order in which they will appear on, the ballot:

1. Joshua Berezny
2. Elizabeth C. Silva
3. Amelia Lantz
4. Gregory-John Fischer
5. Ronald Fisher
6. Brian P. Connelly
7. Susan Koukounas

Koukounas and Fisher are incumbent board members.

Incumbent Byron Perez did not file a nominating petition. He said he decided against running for personal reasons.

“I feel like right now I have to focus on my career and family,” Perez said. “By focusing on this I can give more to the board in the future because I really want to be on the board in the future.”

Perez, a Riverhead Town police officer, said he will continue to be involved in the programs he’s been involved in, including the soccer league and teaching multiple classes in the schools, such as cyberbullying. He will also remain involved in the Riverhead Community Awareness Program.

Fisher and Perez were appointed to the board last year after Amelia Lantz and Ann Cotten-Degrasse resigned.

Koukounas is seeking her third three-year term on the board.

The election will take place on Tuesday, May 15.
