Hills East defeated Riverhead 21-17 at Pulaski Sports Complex.
It was senior day for Riverhead and there was a good crowd on hand to watch a goal fest, as both teams combined for 38 goals on the day.
It was not a defensive matchup, but don’t let the score fool you. Riverhead was always in the game, scoring goal for goal with a much more physical Hills East team.
Riverhead played catch-up most of the first half, with many penalty calls going unnoticed by both referees. Riverhead had Hills East on their heels a few times, getting as close as two goals at one point, but the defense and goalkeeping was not a factor for either team. Riverhead had problems containing some Hills East attack, but countered with great plays of their own in the Hills East end for some sweet goals.
Once again, Dan Mastropaolo was a force to be reckoned with at the “X”, winning 29 of 38 face-offs.
In the end, Hills east managed to keep the lead, and hold on for a 21-17 victory.
Dalton Lucas had 6 goals, Caleb Zuhoski had 4 goals, Connor Grauer had 3 goals, Shane Coleman had 2 goals, and Dan Mastropaolo and Kamryn Gill each had 1. Riverhead is 6-6 overall, and 5-5 in conference.
