Riverhead High School orchestra students welcomed a special visitor last month when acclaimed conductor Adam Glaser shared some instructional time with them.

Glaser, the music director of the Pre-College Orchestra at The Juilliard School and director of orchestras at Hofstra University, helped the students hone their performance skills — including intonation and synergy — as they rehearsed the student orchestra’s concert repertoire together.

After the music lessons, Glaser talked to the students about college life and careers in music.

“This was an extraordinary experience for our music students,” said Lauren Lewonka, director of fine arts. The students “learned a lot,” she said.
