Police are searching for a suspect in a stabbing that occurred about 1 o’clock this afternoon in the area of the parking lot across from the Riverhead railroad station.
The stabbing victim, a 21-year-old man, walked to Spicy’s Restaurant on West Main Street to seek assistance.
The victim was treated by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps at the restaurant and then transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-lifet-hreatening injuries.
Riverhead police officers and detectives conducted a search of the area around the parking lot without results.
Police described the assailant as black male, 6′-2″ tall with messy hair, wearing black and white basketball shorts.
The incident is not believed to be a random act of violence, police said. The victim and suspect maybe known to each other, according to a police press release issued this evening.
The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses to the assault are asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631 727-4500 ext. 321. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
