(Updated-Jan. 2 6:30 a.m.) Fire caused heavy damage to a home on Pier Avenue last night as well as several vehicles on the property, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release. The Riverhead Town fire marshal’s office is investigating, however the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature, police said.

(Original story) Firefighters are battling a blaze at a house on Pier Avenue.

Police found the house “engulfed” when an officer arrived on scene at about 7:19 p.m., according to radio reports.

All residents had safely evacuated the residence, the officer at the scene reported.

The house at 59 Pier Avenue backs up to a farm field and a firefighter reported “wind-driven issues all around the house.”

Jamesport Fire Department is being assisted by Riverhead, Mattituck and Cutchogue fire departments.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance also responded to the scene, as did the Riverhead fire marshal’s office.

The two-story, 2,232-square-foot home was built in 2001, according to public records, and is situated on a flag lot on the west side of Pier Avenue.

The fire was declared under control by the Jamesport fire chief at approximately 8:35 p.m.
