A Riverhead man is facing an attempted robbery charge after allegedly jumping another man, displaying a knife and demanding money from him in the Home Depot parking lot yesterday evening.
Police said they received a 911 call from the victim just before 6 p.m. yesterday. The man reported that an unknown man rushed him, knocking him to the ground, displayed a knife and demanded money from him. The subject then fled on foot to a vehicle parked nearby, according to the report. The victim was able to record the license plate of the vehicle and called 911 to report the incident, police said.
Riverhead Police patrol units responded and located the operator and the involved vehicle at his residence nearby in Riverhead. The male suspect was identified by the victim shortly thereafter.
Police said Able Tsang, 59, of Riverhead was arrested and charged with one count of attempted robbery in the first degree. Tsang was processed and held at Riverhead Police headquarters for morning arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, police said.
