Riverhead Police are seeking information about a robbery that occurred last night in the parking lot outside Marshalls on Route 58.

Riverhead Town Police have charged a 49-year-old homeless man in a robbery on Lincoln Street Wednesday morning and are searching for a second  suspect in connection with the incident.

After a store clerk refused the suspect’s demand to open the cash register, he jumped the counter and pulled out a cloth-covered object resembling a gun. A second employee intervened and the suspect fled the store with a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of Gatorade.

A Riverhead man walking in the Riverside Maritime Trail Park Wednesday afternoon was jumped from behind by two men who stole cash from his pockets, Southampton Town Police said in a press release this afternoon.

Police said the suspect punched a man in the face, knocking him unconscious, then took the man’s backpack and fled the scene. A Riverhead K9 unit located the suspect a short distance away. He was arrested on a felony robbery charge and held for arraignment.

Riverhead Police are investigating an armed robbery of a Route 58 restaurant late Wednesday night.

The victim reported being mugged by two men, one of whom menaced the victim with a machete, Monday night on Doctors Path, Riverhead Police said this morning. The assailants made off with the victim’s wallet, police said.

Police said the man forcibly stole a purse from a 79-year-old woman who was walking in a parking lot at Riverhead Centre. He then ran toward the DSW shoe store, where he was nabbed by responding officers, according to police.

Police arrested a man on robbery and grand larceny charges yesterday after he took a vehicle from a Route 58 auto dealership, according to a police press release.

Police said the suspect used physical force to remove the vehicle owner from a 2021 gray Kia Seltos in the parking lot of the Banana Republic Outlet store. The man threatened the vehicle owner with a box cutter before entering the running vehicle and fleeing westbound on the Long Island Expressway, police said.
