Southampton Town Police have charged a Riverside man in the robbery of a deli in Riverside.

Police said Jose Escalante-Chacon, 26, entered entered Marta’s Deli in Riverside yesterday, threatened the clerk and displayed what appeared to be a firearm.

Escalante-Chacon fled the scene and was located by New York State Police a short time later. He was turned over to Southampton Town Police where he was identified and transported to headquarters for processing.

Escalante-Chacon was charged with Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B Felony and Menacing in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor. He was held overnight for morning arraignment, police said.
