Sean O’Hara was appointed principal of Riverhead High School last night.

The school board voted unanimously to approve his appointment.

O’Hara, 45, an assistant principal at the high school, has served as acting principal since April 30, when principal Charles Regan was administratively reassigned to his home after the school administration was made aware of alleged inappropriate behavior with a student. Regan has since resigned, effective Friday, Sept. 27.

O’Hara’s appointment is effective Monday, Sept. 30 through Sept. 29, 2023. He will earn a starting annual salary of $195,276.

O’Hara was named assistant principal in June 2013, when then-assistant principal Regan was promoted to principal. He was a vocal music teacher and Blue Masques director at the high school before being named K-12 director of fine arts and music in 2009.

School Superintendent Dr. Aurelia Henriquez said last night the administration will be filling a third assistant principal position at the high school, where there are currently two assistant principals.
