An informational forum for manufactured home park residents regarding the “Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Evans K. Griffing County Center at 300 Center Drive in Riverside.

Assemblyman Fred Thiele Jr. is hosting the event. He will be joined by New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas, Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, chair of the Assembly Standing Committee on Housing, and a representative from the N.Y. State attorney general’s office.

The State Legislature in June enacted sweeping housing reforms which were intended to protect tenants in permanent residential housing. The “Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019” is an omnibus affordable housing and rent regulations bill that provides long-overdue protections for manufactured home residents, Thiele said, including a legal remedy for unreasonable rent increases.

The new provisions went into effect on July 14.

Manufactured homes are a critical source of affordable housing for residents in New York State, particularly for senior citizens on fixed incomes seeking to remain in their communities, Thiele said.
