Two people were arrested in a sting operation conducted by the Riverhead Police Department investigating compliance with laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol to people under 21.

The Riverhead Police Department COPE Division in cooperation with the Riverhead Community Awareness Program, conducted an investigation at retail establishments throughout the town, police said in a press release Tuesday night.

Cagdas Azgin, 29, an employee at OK Petro at 1212 E. Main Street and Sanket Patel, 24, an employee at One Stop Smoke Shop, 1698 Old Country Road, were charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the First Degree, police said.

Police checked more than a dozen other locations and found no violations, according to the report.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
