Shoppers enter the Nike store at Tanger Outlets in Riverhead early on Black Friday in 2020.

Most retail stores in Riverhead will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, including Walmart, Target, Costco, Best Buy, T.J. Maxx, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Aldi, BJ’s, and Bed, Bath and Beyond. Tanger Outlets will also be closed.

Several other stores are operating on reduced hours. Stop & Shop and Shoprite are both open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Only a few stores, like Walgreens and CVS, will be open with regular hours on Thursday.

Although some of these stores have been closed in prior years, Walmart, Target and others only just started closing their stores for the holiday last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Target announced on Monday to employees that they will make the holiday closure permanent going forward.

Many retail stores will open early on Black Friday, although if the holiday is anything like last year, crowds won’t be doorbusting like they have in the past. [See prior coverage: How COVID-19 changed Black Friday] Most stores have already started to offer deals both in-store and online ahead of the shopping-holiday and it’s online younger sibling, Cyber Monday.
