The Peconic River Sportsman’s Club in Calverton raised $51,000 for breast cancer charities this year and awarded three organizations $17,000 each during a luncheon at the club last month.

The North Fork Breast Health Coalition, Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition and Lucia’s Angels each received the donations during the Dec. 13 luncheon.

The money was raised during the club’s eighth annual fundraiser, held Aug. 21, called “Take a Shot at Cancer.” More than 200 people attended the event that featured a 15-station course of sporting clays, barbecue chicken lunch, raffles and sporting prizes.

“It is our goal to continue having this event each year,” said PRSC President Mike McEnroy. “These three local breast cancer organizations are doing magnificent work here on Long Island, and our club is honored to assist by raising much needed funds.”

The three breast-cancer volunteer organizations help local breast-cancer patients and raise awareness about breast-cancer. They also host events to raise money for research and to provide classes, support and programs for breast-cancer patients and survivors.

“We are very grateful for such a generous benefactor as Peconic River Sportsman’s Club,” North Fork Breast Health Coalition President Melanie McEvoy Zuhoski said. “With this kind of support, we are able to provide additional services and funding to those in need. This donation will truly make a difference in people’s lives,” she said.
