The VFW Auxiliary Riverhead Post 2476 will hold a pancake fundraiser on Sunday, March 5 from 8 am to 11:30 am, 620 Parkway Street in Riverhead. Menu includes pancakes, eggs, home fries, sausage, coffee, tea and juice. Tickets are adults $10 and children under 12 $5.00. 

The Teen Department at the Riverhead Free Library is happy to present the artwork of students in grades 9 through 12 from the surrounding schools in the area. Be sure to drop in and take a peep and check out the creative and different art works and enjoy some light refreshments at the opening on Wednesday, March 8 from 5 pm to 7 pm. 

Enjoy a few Sunday afternoon specials at the Riverhead Free Library. There is “An Old Fashion Irish Sing-A-Long on Sunday, March 12 from 3 pm to 4 pm. Enjoy Kevin Westley singing traditional Irish songs with audience participation. Of course, the words will be provided for a fun filled time. On Sunday, March 19 from 2 pm to 3 pm enjoy “Stevie GB-One Man Show: Welcome to Lawn Guyland:” a comedians view of this crazy place we call home. On Sunday, March 26 “Meet the Author: Graham E.E. Bailey” from 2 pm to 3 pm as she discusses her thrilling suspense debut novel, Sakhalin. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Donna Young and her committee are working hard planning for the Riverhead Townscape which they will organize the Riverhead Country Fair this fall. They are scheduling meetings for March 9, April 13 and May 11 at 6:30 pm at John Wesley Village. They are looking for those interested in volunteering for the day of the fair scheduled for October 8, vendors are needed and entries for the competition section of the fair. They have worked on the first Annual Tree Lighting this past December in the Town Square and it will be happening again scheduled for December 2 to kick off Christmas. So, if you are interested in lending your time volunteering with this group and planning, they would be happy to have you. Remember “many hands make light work.” 

The Riverhead Lions Club will hold their annual St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on Thursday, March 16 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm at Bistro 72-Indigo Hotel, 1830 West Main Street, Route 25 in Riverhead. Irish dances, 50/50 raffle and more! Their members volunteer their time to help meet the critical unmet needs of our community and of the world too, assisting the visually impaired and working with local youth to medical missions and disaster relief. 

Women’s History Month Book and Bottle Lecture: The Lady Lighthouse Keeper, with Mary Korpi on Saturday, March 18 at 1 pm at the Suffolk County Historical Society Museum, 300 West Main Street in Riverhead. The book a historical fiction based on the life of Stella Prince (1867-1927) of Southold, the only woman to serve as a lighthouse keeper at Horton Point Lighthouse. A pop-up exhibit of Prince family journals and photographs will be on display on the day of the event. The author will make her book available for purchase at $20 each. Members are free and non-members are $8 and includes refreshments. Space is limited so call 631-727-2881 to reserve your spot. The Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Enjoy a bit of history at your convenience as well as these exhibits and events the Museum encourages everyone to come and view history past and present. 

As you have heard by now that the Welcome to Flanders sign at the corner of Pleasure Drive and 104 was stolen. FRNCA (Flanders, Riverside, Northampton Community Assoc) is looking for any pictures taken of the big duck you may have taken and now on your phone, photo album or framed. They want to consider making a new sign and need pictures of the big duck. If you would consider to share your photo please submit your photo by emailing to info@frnca.org. They will have a vote on March 8 for the best picture that will be featured on the sign. Please submit your photos as they are looking to have a new sign made. 

The Town of Southampton Bureau and Peconic Ballet Theatre will be hosting Dance with Project LEAP (Learn, Empower, Achieve, Perform) every Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6 pm from March 16 through June 15 at the Flanders Youth Center, 655 Flanders Road. Class will not be held on April 13. Professional dance instructors from Peconic Ballet Theatre will teach Hip Hop and Ballet while encouraging exercise, confidence building, creativity and having fun. Previous experience is not necessary to join. Dance with Project LEAP is open to grades first through sixth and the cost to attend is $125 for the entire session.
