Riverhead Police are searching for the suspect in an armed carjacking at Tanger Outlets late yesterday afternoon.

Police said the suspect used physical force to remove the vehicle owner from a 2021 gray Kia Seltos in the parking lot of the Banana Republic Outlet store. The man threatened the vehicle owner with a box cutter before entering the running vehicle and fleeing westbound on the Long Island Expressway, police said in a press release last night.

Police responded to a report of the robbery at 3:48 p.m. and pursued the vehicle on the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway before ending the pursuit. The last known location of the vehicle is believed to be Queens County at about 5:30 p.m., police said.

Police described the suspect as a Black male with a dark complexion, in his mid to late 20s, about 6 feet tall, slim build, short curly black hair and goatee, wearing a green vest over a grey hooded sweatshirt, grey sweatpants, and light colored sneakers.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information related to this case to contact the Riverhead Police Department Detective Division at (631)727-4500. All calls will be confidential, police said.
