Seventeen of 18 retail shops checked by Riverhead Police yesterday were in compliance with state law prohibiting the sale of alcohol to minors, police said in a press release last night.

Police arrested a clerk at BP Gas at 626 West Main St.. Oktay Celik was charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child in the First Degree, police said. He was processed and released on a desk appearance ticket, according to the report.

Yesterday’s sweep was conducted by the Riverhead Police Department COPE Division in cooperation with the Riverhead Community Awareness Program.

Police said the following locations were found to be in compliance:

  • American Gas, 1427 Main Road, Jamesport
  • Empire Gas, 640 Main Road, Aquebogue
  • 7-Eleven, 162 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Empire Gas, 640 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Speedway Gas, 870 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Citgo Gas, 1050 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • BP Gas, 1356 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • Bola Mobil Gas, 1575 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • One Stop Smoke Shop, 1696 Old Country Road, Riverhead
  • OK Petro Gas, 1212 East Main St., Riverhead
  • FA Grocery, 733 East Main St., Riverhead
  • Mobil Gas, 415 East Main St., Riverhead
  • Riverhead Stationary, 407 East Main St., Riverhead
  • KD Beer & Smoke, 121 West Main Street, Riverhead
  • 7-Eleven, 245 West Main Street, Riverhead
  • Oscars Deli, 421 Pulaski Street, Riverhead
  • Polish Town Deli, 432 Pulaski Street, Riverhead
