The Greater Jamesport Civic Association invites the public to attend a triple celebration on Tuesday, July 4 celebrating their annual Independence Day commemoration and the 100th anniversary of the George Young Community Center building (formerly known as Jamesport Elementary) and the 75th anniversary of the Greater Jamesport Civic Association (a.k.a. the Jamesport-South Jamesport Civic Association, Inc.). These events are free and open to the public and all are welcome. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 4 at 10 am at the honor garden at the corner of Main Road and South Jamesport Avenue. The ceremony will include remarks by Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar and other elected officials, Riverhead Town Historian Georgette Case, former Jamesport Elementary School student Carl Gabrielsen, VFW Post #2476 and Greater Jamesport Civic Association President Laura Jens-Smith. The ceremony will feature a performance of patriotic songs by members of the Jamesport Meeting House Chorus. The formal ceremonies will be followed by an open house at the community center at which visitors may view displays of memorabilia on loan from former elementary students and highlights of the civic association. Refreshments will be served in the community center. The event will be held rain or shine.

Do not forget the upcoming blood drive on Saturday, July 8 from 10 am to 2:30 pm in memory of Dave “Bub” Fox. The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps is holding their 2023 fund drive and most recently a letter has been mailed to all residents in the community. Take time to read the insert on what to do in a medical emergency dialing 911 and information after you have called for help. It is all outlined for your benefit at a critical time asking for help. You can donate to the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance in the envelope enclosed or donate online at www.RiverheadVAC.com. There is even a box to check off if you are interested in joining the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 

Vendor applications for this years Riverhead Country Fair are ready. There is an early bird pricing for $100 before August 1st for vendor booths. You can submit online by checking out the website www.riverheadcountryfair.com or mail in a money order and application to Riverhead Country Fair, P.O. Box 869, Riverhead, NY 11901. This year’s fair date is October 8th.

The Friends of the Riverhead Free Library awarded on Tuesday, June 20, the 2023 their Art Scholarship to Aidan Tobin, a very deserving Riverhead High School graduate. Aidan has been accepted by the prestigious SUNY Purchase School of Art + Design, where he will pursue a BFA in Graphic Design. He showed his work portfolio to the Friends which they were incredibly creative and depicting his enormous talent.

The 2023 Yellow Barn hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9 am to 2 pm and Saturdays July 8 and August 12 from 10 am to 2 pm. Browse through the many books and stock up for the summer. 

The Friends of the Riverhead Library have the display cases in the library beautifully depicting intricately crocheted items by Shanmatie Calderon during the months of July and August. In the Gallery are Paintings by Wendy McLaughlin, a self-taught artist who has received international recognition for her art work you can enjoy viewing during the months of July and August. 

Looking for fun the Riverhead Chess Club Championship and Quads will be held at the Riverhead Free Library on Saturday, July 15 from 9:30 am to 4 pm. This is open to all, competitive chess tournament includes trophies, prizes, lessons and snacks. If you have a chess set bring it along and for more information contact Henry at 631-968-5349. 

The Southampton Youth Bureau will be hosting “Teen Nights” at Ludlum Park, 239 Ludlam Avenue every Wednesday during the summer. Teens in grades 7 through 12 are invited to hang out and participate in numerous activities which include a live DJ music, basketball, wiffle ball, kickball, soccer, games, food and more. The fun begins Wednesday, July 12 through Wednesday, August 23 from 5:30 pm to 9 pm. A free basketball clinic will also take place from 6 pm to 8 pm. The Town of Southampton Youth Bureau will be sponsoring Next Level Basketball Training at Southampton Youth Services (SYS), 1370a Majors Path every Friday from 5 pm to 7 pm staring Friday, July 14 through Friday, August 18. Program cost is $50 for a six-week session and will be open to middle school, JV or varsity players. Coach contact information is necessary to join and space is very limited and pre-registration is required.
