The Riverhead Town highway department will begin town-wide loose leaf pickup on Nov. 27.

Pickup will take place over three weeks with the town divided into three segments:

Nov. 27- Dec. 1: Laurel Lane to Northville Turnpike
Dec. 4- Dec. 8: Northville Turnpike to Hulse Landing Road
Dec. 11-Dec. 15: Hulse Landing Road to Brookhaven Town Line

The town highway department will make only one pass through each area.

The town highway department asks residents to adhere to the following requirements:

Do not rake leaves in a line across the front of your property; put them in one pile.

Do not block vehicular or pedestrian traffic. Do not block drains. Keep leaves on your property and do not put them in the street. Leaves or other yard waste placed out for collection in a way that impedes the flow of vehicular or pedestrian traffic is a violation of Town Code (103-22.)

This pick-up is for residents only. The town highway department will not pick up landscapers’ leaves.

Put your leaves out just before your scheduled pickup week. Until then, you must bag your leaves for pickup by the town’s municipal carter on the bulk/yard waste pickup day in your district.
