An Eastport man was arrested on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Leaving the Scene of an Accident following a crash on County Road 51 in Northampton Friday night, Southampton Town Police said in a press release this morning.
Police responded to the scene of a reported two-car accident on County Road 51 at Speonk Riverhead Road Friday night at about 9:10 p.m. and discovered that one of the drivers had fled the scene of the crash on foot into the woods, according to the press release.
Officers searched the area and located the suspect in the woods a short while later and took him into custody, police said.
Alex Cano-Arriega, 31, was found to be intoxicated by alcohol and in possession of a quantity of cocaine, according to the report. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident, a violation.
Cano-Arriega was taken to an area hospital for treatment of a hand injury and and released on an appearance ticket for court at a later date, police said.
