Hampton Gyro, a quick service Greek-American restaurant, is opening a second location in a Route 58 shopping center in Riverhead.
The restaurant will serve a variety of Greek foods, including gyros, platters, souvlaki, falafel, as well as American foods like burgers, chicken sandwiches and wings, owner Mike Dzanoucakis said.
“We’re mixing two concepts into one basically, it’s Greek-American,” Dzanoucakis said.
“So it’s not your fancy Greek place with seafood and branzino and all that, it’s more the quick stuff that everybody likes. And we have something for everybody.”
Dzanoucakis, a restaurateur of Greek heritage who lives in Manorville, said he is shooting for an opening in October or November. He said just received his building permits from Riverhead Town and is set to start renovations on the building next week.
Dzanoucakis opened Hampton Gyro in Hampton Bays in 2018. He said what sets the restaurant apart is the quality of the service and the food. “We’re slicing gyro right off the cone for you and serving it fresh,” Dzanoucakis said, referring to the method of cooking gyro meat on a vertical broiler. “That’s a big difference.”
Hampton Gyro will be located in the strip mall on the Route 58 traffic circle where Moe’s Southwest Grill, Dunkin’ and Lobster Wok are located. The space was previously occupied by Aaron’s, a rent-to-own furniture and appliance store.
