Riverhead Town Police reported 228 criminal incidents, filed 110 criminal charges and made 102 arrests in July, according to a monthly crime report released by Police Chief Ed Frost in September.
The criminal offenses reported in July were:
- Forcible Fondling – 2
- Aggravated Assault – 2
- Simple Assault – 39
- Intimidation – 11
- Burglary/Breaking & Entering – 4
- Shoplifting – 47
- Pocket Picking – 1
- Theft from a building – 1
- Theft from a motor vehicle – 7
- All other larceny – 16
- Motor Vehicle Theft – 2
- Identity Theft – 5
- Stolen Property Offenses – 1
- Destruction/Damage/Vandalism of Property – 19
- Drug/Narcotic Violations – 7
- Weapon Law Violations – 3
- Driving Under the Influence – 38
- Trespass of Real Property – 7
- All Other Offenses – 16
The July report was the department’s first monthly report to reflect only National Incident-Based Reporting System data. The National Incident-Based Reporting System, known as NIBRS, is a crime data reporting system implemented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. - Obstructing Government Administration – 1
- Petit Larceny – 10
- Possession of Weapon – 1
- Public Lewdness – 1
- Town Code Violation – 9
- Trespass – 3
- Unlawful Dealing with a Child – 5
- Unlawful Possession of Fireworks -1
- Unlawfully Selling Fireworks – 1
- Warrant – 22
Of the 102 persons arrested in July, 63 were held for arraignment, according to the report.
Police reported 87 domestic incidents in July.
The town issued 995 summonses in July: 95 town code violations, 620 traffic tickets and 280 parking tickets.
There were 2,573 non-criminal incidents reported by police in July.
