Riverhead Police are seeking the public’s help in connection with the investigation of a robbery that occurred overnight at the 7-Eleven located in DMV Plaza at 162 Old Country Road in Riverhead.
Police said in a press release this afternoon they received a 911 call at 1:43 a.m. today from an employee at the 7-Eleven store reporting a robbery.
The female employee told police a male entered the store, approached the counter, requested a pack of cigarettes, then demanded that she open the cash register, according to the press release. The employee refused and the suspect then jumped over the counter and pulled out an unknown object covered by a cloth, resembling a firearm, police said. A male employee intervened and attempted to subdue the suspect. After a short struggle, the suspect fled from the store with a pack of cigarettes and a bottle of Gatorade as proceeds.+
Patrol officers received a description of the suspect, and with the assistance of a Riverhead Police K-9 unit, searched the area, but did not locate the suspect, the press release said.
The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5′ 10” tall, wearing a dark jacket, medical mask, gloves and black/white checkered colored pants.
This incident was turned over to the detective division for further investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information pertaining to the case is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
