Riverhead High School senior Christian Seymour has been named to the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Symphonic Band.

NYSSMA’s All-State Symphonic Band is an honors ensemble made up of the top student musicians from school music departments across New York State. Seymour, who will perform on alto saxophone, was selected from a ”highly competitive field” after receiving perfect scores on both his alto saxophone solo and baritone saxophone solo NYSSMA evaluations earlier this year, according to a Riverhead Central School District press release.

Approximately 600 students across the state are selected to participate in All-State ensembles, according to the NYSSMA website. Seymour will rehearse and perform with the All-State Symphonic Band from Dec. 4-7 at the 89th Annual NYSSMA Winter Conference, held at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center in Rochester.

“Christian is a driven musician with a mature sense of artistry with his instrument,” said Riverhead High School band director Joseph Randazzo. “I first met Christian as a sixth grader, and since then, he has continually demonstrated a high level of preparation and devotion to his musical activities, which has been inspiring to watch. I am thrilled for him to have this experience to perform with other like-minded musicians from across the state.”

Last school year, Seymour was named to the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education All-County Band and selected as an alternate for the NYSSMA All-State Band, according to the district.
